Letter from Josh 2 March 2009

Hey family!
sorry for how short the message was last week, i had to go get some passport pics taken and developed so that i can have my resident card for Tanzania and then we also had a dinner appointment so i only had like a half hour for reading and writing and everything. But Arusha is awesome, yes i do want to climb the mountains, unfortunately, the smallest one is suppose to be a two day climb so i cant, but i love being around them again. Kilimanjaro is close but i cant see it from here, some p-day we will go visit it before i leave here but for now i have still only seen pictures. So i got to take my first shower today since the time i have been here and it was like heaven. from what i hear water has always been a problem in this area and it will be here for a few days then be gone for a week or two, but it realy isnt that big of a problem, fetching the water is anoying but its not like we have to walk miles for it or anything (just a half mile round trip) so its not bad. But it is absolutely beautiful here, lots of little streams everywhere because of the water coming from mount Meru and everything is very green and it is always the season for flowers to be blooming, mom would lve some of the hedge fence things they have here. The branch here has a lot of very good people, the church may be small here, but the members are super dedicated. About 80 percent of investigators are from member referals here, which makes it way easier for us. and with not getting a single member referal in Rongai, it almost feels like a vacation here. Food is more expensive here, but it is pretty much the same other than that. The chapel is very far again, we have to take two dala dalas to get there, but they are looking for a place in town for the church to move to so it wont be that far for very long. The apartment here is much better other than the water thing. it is bigger and you can actually move around in the kitchen, Pres Taylor nicknamed it the white house because it is white and because it is the biggest flat in the mission, so i am being spoiled a bit as far as the house goes. The rainy season has sort of started, it rained three times this week, but the official rainy season isnt until the end of the month threw mayish, but even when it does rain or has rained i should say, it is still very hot and the rain feels refreshing until you get to a dry place and you realize you are soaked. My first mission tour (all of the missionarys get together and one the 70 in charge of Africa comes to talk to us, kinda like a giant Zone conference) is on the 17. So i will be going to Dar Salaam for that. it is in Tanzania along the coast. And it will actually just be the missionarys in Tanzania that go to this one (the ones in Kenya have theirs a few days after). I am excited except that Dar is suppose to be super humid and hot. Elder Elam said Dar Salaam means hotter than hell; not an acurate translation, but funny.anyways, i love you all very much! thank you for everything! Happy Birthday to Mom and Megan! (i know its a bit late but i didnt have time to write it last week)
Your Favorite Missionary in Africa,Elder Harris
P.S. if you could get me like 40 pounds of those cadbury mini chocolate eggs i promise i will sign that contract about the ten kids and the liveing close to home (as long as there is a loop hole about the ten kids part).
