Letter ftom Josh 11 OCTOBER 2010

Hello!!!

This week was wonderful. We went up to Eldoret and had a zone leader council there on Thursday. In the past these have been very boring and it was just everybody giving trainings on things that we all already knew we should be doing but that most of the mission wasn't doing, or at least wasn't doing as well as they should, and then the zone leaders were suppose to go back and tell their zones to do better. But with this one there was no agenda at all. we just went in and president asked how their zones were doing and what their zones were struggling with and it was just an open discussion for the next two hours. It was sooooo much better this way. the other ones were dry and boring and were just kind of there but nobody really thought or felt that anything was going to change because of it. But at the end of this one everybody there had a desire to improve and to change and help their zones to as-well. Things are going to start to turn around here, it was very tangibly felt at that meeting that it would. and a favorite scripture came out of the meeting too. it is Romans 5: 19- "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous." and we used that scripture to show how we need to be an example to others. because if we are disobedient then we are helping other to be disobedient as-well. but if we are obedient, we are helping those around us to be righteous. It was a good meeting.
Then Friday was zone conference and then Saturday we drove to kisumu. but president forgot his suit jacket at his hotel so we had to drive two and a half hours back to eldoret while president did a branch leadership training in kisumu and then back to kisumu with the suit jacket. and then Saturday evening we got to do some exchanges with the zone leaders and teach a couple of lessons. Sunday we drove back to Nairobi, and today we just came to the office and started to catch up while we e-mail home.
This week will be very similar. we go on Thursday to Mombasa and that evening we will have a zone leader council and then the next day we will do their zone conference and then Saturday is exchanges and Sunday we come back. so i will be writing to you next Monday.
I made that cookie last night mom, and i went to make it and was shocked that there was no milk or water in the recipe. so i called sister Braodbent and asked if that was normal. she said it was so i continued. the dough is sitting in the fridge as we speak so that they will be the really good chewy kind when we cook them tonight. Also, Pres and Sis Broadbent sang happy birthday to me this morning and gave me a bottle of tabasco peppers because they found out i like spicy food. I'm excited for them because it is hard to have spicy food when most of your companions dont like and all of the hot sauce's that you can afford on a missionary budget taste horrible (trust me, i have tried them all). But this way i will be able to have good spicy food without having my companion mad at me.
Mom, i will be there at the airport to pick you up. I dont know if i will be staying at the Broadbents with you that first night or not but i will pick you up and take you to their place and at least be there for a bit and if my replacement gets here on that Sunday then i will stay with the Broadbents as-well. but if not then i will be with you for good by Monday evening at the latest.
anyways, i love you guys!!!!! i hope you have a wonderful week and do something fun for me!
Love,
Elder Harris
