Letter from Josh 15 Feb 2010

dearest family,

this week was kinda busy. we had exchanges with the assistants on wednesday and then with the elders in a place called Athi River on thursday and friday. so the week should have just flown by. but we got bounced so many times. we only had two actual appointments go through the whole week. i am getting sick of getting bounced so much and doing so much contacting. i dont think i have ever felt like i have worked so hard with seeing no result from it. it reminded me why i like construction and manual labor jobs, because you can see your progress and bask in the glory of your finished project.
Athi river was cool though. it is a small little place, but it is up-country. it reminded me of arusha. i like those kinds of areas soooooooooo much more. the city just seems so dirty, and the country just feels like home. i sincerely hope this is my last city area. the members here are cool though and the ward runs itself properly, which is a first for my mission, so there are definite upsides to this place too.
all of the pictures of Chile made me drool. especially of Carlos' familys house. i remember how gorgeous that place was. and even though there werent many pictures the farm that mom described is every bit as impressive and beautiful as she described. i remember i had the hicups while i was at the parents home and the father (galancito) started oppening a cupboard with all sorts of alchohol in it and was about to mix whiskey and scotch (at least i think thats what it was) while telling me he had a sure fire cure for the hicups. i was only 13 then, i am pretty sure if i had taken it the alchohol would have made me sick. so i politely refused and then stuffed myself with their delicious bread rolls smothered in dulce de leche. that sounds so good right now!!!!
the package is at the office waiting for me. i will go to pick it up today. the elder that picked it up asked me if i was planning on starting my own candy buisness. that was enough for me to know i will be very pleased.
i am glad to hear that spencer can cook. but i just have to wonder what he would cook here cause he is picky and we cant afford the cheese and whipping cream required for alfredo. tell him to make something with only vegetables and maiz flour and see what he comes up with. although i am super jealous of all of the food and very ready to have it all again. only nine more months!! am going to be so fat by the time christmas comes i can just feel it.
Mike, whats up with you and candice? you still havent said anything and i am getting antsy. if you are married before i get home wont be too happy. i wanted some of that cake and to hit on the girl while you are still dating. that just becomes so much less fun once youre married.
anyways, i love you guys. i hope you have an amazing week. eat lots for me!!!!! (if you didnt catch on i am really hungry right now cause wwe decided to eat after e-mailing today. im not sure i will do that again.)
Love,
Elder Harris
